Viola Recommendations
Violas come in different sizes. Be sure to order the correct size for your student!
Size chart based on age:
5-7 years old - 1/4 size
8-9 years old - 1/2 size
10-11 years old - 3/4 size
12-13 years old - 4/4 size
14 + - 15” and beyond
Students will need:
Viola kit - violin, bow, case, rosin.
Rent a viola and have it shipped to your door with Baroque Violin Shop, OR
Purchase a viola with the help of an experienced rep with Sweet Water.
Zaret Viola Sponge - to fit the viola to the shoulder. (It doesn’t matter if the sponge is for “violin” or “viola,” the best fit is determined by the size of the instrument.)
Stringvision Bow Grip - to aid in loosely holding the bow.
Music stand - so there’s no slouching while playing!
Optional:
String Swing Violin Wall Hanger - so your viola is always in easy reach for practice! (It doesn’t matter that the String Swing is for violins, it works for viola too!)
Center-Sitting Chin Rest - be sure to order the correct size for your instrument (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 4/4). We recommend chin rests without a center hump.
